On November 4, 2006 at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Jeannine (126 lbs) won a clear (100-87,99-89,98-90) ten-round unanimous decision over Las Vegas-based veteran Laura Serrano (123 lbs) of Mexico for the vacant WIBA Featherweight title. According to a report by Shawn Roth of FightNews Canada, "Garside thoroughly dominated the fight from the opening bell, punishing Serrano with a relentless left hook that the Mexican fighter could not deal with. Serrano was put to the canvas in the third and tenth round but returned to her feet, a true testament of her toughness. Serrano refused to stay down, shook the cobwebs off and continued to brawl with Garside, which garnered the appreciation of the crowd for her unbelievable ability to take punishment and keep fighting." Jeannine improved to 6-0-1 (2 KOs) while dropping Laura to 16-3-2 (6 KO's). Jeannine was proud to exchange fight trunks with Laura Serrano immediately following the bout.
