Eyobe Amberber fought for the Border City Boxing Club for three years.  An Honour Role Student at Riverside Secondary School, Amberber left Border City in 2007 to attend the University of Toronto. Amberber was the 2007 Ontario Champion. For more on Eyobe, click here.

 

Alex Balteiro fought for the Kingsville Boxing Club for two years.  In 1995 he won the Canadian Championship.

Gil Balteiro boxed as an amateur for ten years with the Kingsville Boxing Club.  He won three Canadian championships and  a bronze in the Worlds.  Gil also had a successful professional career.

 

Earl Barker fought under Kirk Scott at the Ren-Cen Boxing Club in the 1980s.

 

Larry Bauer was the vice-president of The Border City Boxing Club up to his death in 1994.

 

Doug Bedard is the former Head Coach of the Windsor and Border City Boxing Clubs who still get requests from successful professional fighters to come out of coaching retirement. Doug brought several amateur boxers from the Windsor area to Canadian Titles and was the conditioning coach for several local professional fighters. When Bedard was coaching there were strict rules against working both amateur and professional corners, so Doug's love for the amateur sport kept him loyal to his amateur boxers. Bedard is an artist and an athlete who is forever collecting awards for his artwork and who recently ran both the Boston Marathon and the Detroit Marathon.

 

Alex Borshuk was the Canadian Heavyweight Champion from 1941-1945. The Oshawa born fighter fought under the name Al Delaney and made Windsor his home up to his death in 1997. The highlight of Borshuk's career was in 1934 when he fought one of the greatest heavyweights of all time: Joe Louis.

 

Jennifer Brook fought for the Riverside Boxing Club under Jerry Small in the mid 1990s. Jen became Riverside Boxing Club's first female Ontario Champion in 1996.

 

Anthony Canty fought for three years for the Border City Boxing Club in the mid 1990s and won the Ontario Championship. He returned to help coach at the club in 2002.

 

Donna Canty is the President and Founder of the St. Joachim Boxing Club. As a boxer Donna won the Ontario Gold Medal and Canadian Silver Medal for the Border City Boxing Club under trainer Greg Price. Now Donna Parent, she and her husband Frank both manage and coach at the St. Joachim Club.

 

Josh Canty fought under Head Coach Doug Bedard and President Jerry McCarthy at the Windsor Boxing Club where he won the Ontario Championship. From there he won the Canadian Title for the Border City Boxing Club under Bedard and Bill White. He is currently the President of the Border City Boxing Club.

 

Dave Cassivi has been a Windsor City Councilor and a great supporter of boxing in our area for many years.

Dave Cleroux was the Ontario Champion for the Windsor Amateur Boxing Club and won the silver medal at the Canadian Championships.

Ryan Corcoran fought for the Riverside Boxing Club under trainer Jerry Small and won the Ontario Championship in 1998.

 

Bob Cruise is a former assistant coach at the Border City Boxing Club who loves to put in extra time outside of the club helping needy kids.

 

Andre Courtemanche  Has been coaching for 10 years.  For the past three years he has been president and coach of the Kingsville Boxing Club.  Andre assisted Doug Patterson with Gil Balteiro and now has the first female boxer out of Kingsville, Amy York, to win a Canadian championship.
He also brought Zoron Vasic to win the
Ontario Championship.
