Garside to Defend her World Title Against Lisa Brown

The Border City Boxing Club's Jeannine "Heartless" Garside is not the only one eager for her next professional fight. Read the following WBAN Article:

'On June 23rd, in Edmonton, Alberta Lisa "Bad News" Brown is coming to back to get her title. In a highly anticipated rematch with Jeannine Garside, Brown is out to avenge her November 18th loss and, in her own words, "take back what is rightfully mine."

A Ring of Their Own Partner Arnie "Tokyo" Rosenthal is also eager to see Brown and Garside mix it up again, and said, " I promised Lisa back in December that I'd give her a chance at redemption and I'm excited to see this rematch".

Brown is reluctant to speak too much about her training for the southpaw Garside but is ready to spread her brand of news when the two warriors meet again. About Garside holding the title, Brown says, "This belt is just on loan-it was a lottery night where her number was called and she got it. And I’m gonna go there June 23 and show the world that hey, November 18 was just one of those ordinary times when you could lose or you could gain, and it happened that I lost and now I’m going out to take back what is rightfully mine."'

Garside's response: "This time it's serious." To see the WBAN article click here!

Farewell to a Champion and a Friend

Two-Time Olympian Andrew Kooner (center, surrounded by a few of the Border City Boxers he has mentored over the years) had his final training session at Border City today. Canada’s most successful boxer from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Greece, Kooner was unveiled as the newest member of the GYM stable earlier this month in Montreal.

The British born Kooner has reached a three-way promotional deal involving Group Yvon Michel (GYM), RFI Promotions, and Hennessy Sports of England. Kooner went further than any of his Olympic teammates, losing out on the bronze medal, and is the third boxer of the five man team to turn professional, Benoit Gaudet and Jean Pascal being the others. Athens was the second Olympiad for Kooner who also competed at the 2000 games in Atlanta where he also lost out to an eventual medal winner. He also won Commonwealth silver.

The transatlantic agreement is the latest extension of a fast growing relationship that will have Kooner spending the majority of his early career in Canada. The young protégé who has a large contingent of family and friends in the Birmingham area hopes to be making his British debut within six months. Andrew Kooner is amongst the best of what Canadian Amateur Boxing has produced in the last 15 years,” said Yvon Michel, president of GYM.
