December 11-13, 2003 Border City Boxer Competes in Sarnia
Border City Boxer Lukas Welniak recently returned from a dual match against Poland.
Welniak competed
against Przemyslaw Szczepanek on Dec. 11th in Sudbury, ON and Dec. 13th in
Montreal, Quebec. The young athlete was victorious in both matches.

Border City Boxing Club Wins 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver
The Border City Boxing Club performed well at the Ontario Boxing Championship on Friday at Wheel's Roller Rink in Windsor, bringing home one silver and 3 gold medals.
On Saturday, "Gentleman" Jim Larkin stopped Toronto's Darrell Mack in the Sr. 69 kg. Division in the first round. On Sunday, Larkin beat Matt Hart of Bramalea with a score of 29-26 and went on to beat former Olympian Mike Strange from St. Catharines, winning the gold medal.
Border City's Katie "Silence" Dunn avenged last year's loss to Ontario Champion Katie Hampton by a score of 25-4. Dunn, a former Provincial Intermediate Champion moved on to the Sr. 60 Kg final, where she stopped her opponent in the 2nd round, capturing the gold medal. Larkin and Dunn will move on to the Nationals in Saskatchewan in January.
Lukas "The Rabbit" Welniak, Border City's only Junior (16-17 year old) competitor, won his semi-final bout, stopping Lambton's Justin Horton in the second round of their 64 Kg. bout. He moved on to the final where he prevailed over Orangeville's Stephen Franjic, winning the gold medal. Welniak will move on to the National Junior Championships in Quebec this January.
Alison "The Cat" Hunter who brought home the silver medal, got the bye on the first day of the tournament, won her first fight to Liz Zacharski of KO King in Toronto and went on to fight Rachel Byrd of Waterloo, losing with a score of 34-40.
"Gorgeous" Andre Gorges made an unsuccessful leap to Senior, dropping a 25-16 decision to former champ Buzz Grant of Bramalea. Gorges, who started boxing at Border City just two years ago, missed the junior cut-off by two months; however, he made a strong showing in his first Senior Provincial Tournament.

Boxers return from Finland
Border City Boxers Andre Gorges and Dave Robinson and Coach Josh Canty will return to Windsor today after competing at the 24th Annual Tammer Tournament in Tampere, Finland.
Gorges performed well at the tournament, weighing in at 132 lb., the boxer competed in the 141 lb/64 kg Senior Men's Open division, handing Hungary their first defeat, when he prevailed over Tamas Pekanov with score of 18-10. Gorges went on to face and lose to Mohamed Massoudy of Norway.
Border City's Dave Robinson was defeated in his challenge to Italy's Andrea DiLuisa in the 75 kg senior men's open division, ending the boxers chances in the tournament.
The boxers were disappointed but realize the fact the Border City Boxing Club qualified two boxers for this tournament was quite an accomplishment in itself. Gorges and Robinson are looking forward to the next competition, Border City's club show at the Air Force Club on November 8, 2003.

Gorges hands Hungary their first defeat
Border City Boxer Andre Gorges, competing in the 64 kgs. Senior Men's Open division at the 24th Annual Tammer Tournament in Tampere, Finland
handed Hungary their first defeat, prevailing over Tamas Pekanov with score of 18-10.
Gorges will face Mohamed Massoudy of Norway tomorrow at the AIBA world ranking tournament.
Border City's Dave Robinson will contend Italy's Andrea DiLuisa in the75 kg senior men's open division tomorrow.
Tampere is the Finland's second largest regional centre after the Greater Helsinki Area. Tampere is situated on the Tammerkoski Rapids between two large lakes.
Finland forms a cultural and commercial gateway between East and West, and shares borders with Sweden and Norway to the west, Russia to the east and Estonia to the south over the Gulf of Finland.
Forests cover three quarters of the country's surface area and there are approximately 190 000 lakes and about as many islands.
The official domestic languages are Finnish and Swedish but English is widely understood and spoken.

The old and the new - Larkin and Hamka Win
Two Border City Boxing Club members won decisions in Houghton Lake Michigan on Saturday night in preparation for Border City's Air Force Club Showdown on November 8th.
One of Border City longest running members and 2003 Provincial Champion "Gentleman" Jim Larkin defeated Dan Wallace of the Irish Hills Boxing Team in a Senior 165 lbs. Open-Class contest.
One of Border City's newest competitors, Ali "Ace" Hamka out-pointed Eric Chamberlain of Mount Pleasant's Tribal Boxing Club in a Jr. C 125 lbs. Novice bout, improving his record to 6-1.
Border City's Air Force Club Showdown will take place at 1570 Marentette on Saturday November 8th at 7 PM. Tickets will be available at the door or to get advance tickets call Border City at 254-1578.

Robinson, Gorges and Canty off to Finland
Based on their performances at the 2003 National Native American Boxing Championships, two Border City Boxers have been selected to participate
in the 24th Annual Tammer Tournament in Tampere, Finland from October 16-19, 2003.
Both "Dangerous" Dave Robinson and "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges won Gold Medals at the National Native American Boxing Championships earlier this
year, earning their places on the team to represent the Native American Sports Council (N.A.S.C) in Finland. Border City Coach Josh Canty was selected as a
Team Coach by the N.A.S.C.

Gorges left for the Sports Warrior Boxing Team Training Camp in New York over the weekend and will be joined by Robinson and Canty in New York
on October 12th when the entire team leaves for Finland.

Robinson KOs Walford in Fourth
The Border City Boxing Club had six winners on Saturday night at their Intimate Evening of Boxing show at the Portuguese Club.
Katie "Silence" Dunn avenged last year's loss to Provincial champ Katie Hampton of Waterloo with a unanimous decision in the evening's co-main event
Preliminary bouts included debuts by Ali "Junior" Youssef and Catalin "Cadillac" Nita , who both scored unanimous decision victories over
Detroit's Walter Mays and Mark McCloskey respectively.
Border City's Tanya Tomlinson bested Allana Rabley by unanimous decision and Ali "Ace" Hamka won a unanimous decision over Waterloo's Lee Garibaldi.
Also representing Border City in exhibition bouts were, "Jackknife" Josh Cameron and Alison "The Cat" Hunter.
In the main event of the evening "Dangerous" Dave Robinson made a successful jump to light-heavyweight, knocking out Hamilton's Trevor
Walford in the fourth round. Robinson earned the Bill White Best Boxer Award for the evening. The bout was the final tune-up for Robinson, the 2003 Native American Middleweight Champion, who leaves for the Tammer
Tournament in Finland next week accompanied by "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges and Coach Josh Canty.

Border City Perfect
On Friday September 26, 2003, The Border City Boxing Club had two boxers compete in Sarnia. Ontario Champion Lukas Welniak defeated Jeff
Boyd from The Ring London Boxing Club in a 64 kgs/141 lb Jr. C Open Class bout by unanimous decision.
Ali "Ace" Hamka, "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges and Katie "Silence" Dunn enjoy their wins on Saturday night.
Also representing Border City was
Andre Gorges who won over Joel Ypchuk of The Hamilton Boxing Club in the Senior, 60 kgs/132 lbs Open Category via unanimous decision.
On Saturday September 27, Gorges fought again in Akron Ohio, beating the U.S. Army's Stephan Watson (132 lbs. Sr. Open) from Fort Bragg,
North Carolina.
Border City's
Katie Dunn also fought a member of the U.S. Army, winning by second round T.K.O. over Cherie Retamozzo
in the Senior Open Class 60 kgs/132 lbs. division.
Ali Hamka was Border City's final competitor, winning a unanimous decision over Akron's Chet Peters in a Jr. C Novice 57 kgs/125 lbs. contest.
Border City's next event will be Saturday October 4, 7 p.m. at the Portuguese Club, 1457 Drouillard Road.

Gorges Wins at Masonic Temple
Tonight at the Masonic Temple, Border City's Andre Gorges earned the Bill White Best Boxer Award , defeating Toledo's Travis Holyfield
by unanimous decision in the senior 141 lb open class division.
The show was hosted by Lethal
Athletics and Border City Boxing and included a magic show by magician/comedian Brad Toulouse.

Hamka Prevails in Kitchener
Border City Boxer Ali Hamka defeated Waterloo's L. Garibaldi by a unanimous decision at the Waterloo Regional
Boxing Academy. Border City's Grego Gajewska lost a close decision to Mc Grory Boxing Club's D. Hasan.

Growing Pains in Kansas
The Border City Boxing Team has returned to Windsor after competing in the 2003 Ringside
National Labor Day Championships August 26-31.
In his debut bout, 49 year old Coach Lloyd Johnson brought home the silver medal in the
senior masters division after dropping a decision to his opponent.
Border City's Josh Cameron won his first bout against Lee Spaulding from Fort Worth, TX., and went on to drop a 2-1 decision to Sadam
Ali of Brooklyn N.Y. Ali went on to win the gold medal at the 45 kgs/100 lb. open class 13/14 year
old category.
Border City's Jamie Cameron lost a 2-1 split decision to Tommy Antencio from Denver, CO., who went on to win
the gold in the 132 lb. 15/16 year old category.
Border City's Lukas Welniak won a unanimous over his opponent and advanced to the semi finals,
where Luis Lopez from Long Beach, CA. refused to face Welniak . In his third bout, Welniak faced DeShon Banks
from Toledo, Ohio. Banks, the 2003 Golden Gloves Champion defeated Welniak by unanimous
decision and Banks went on to win gold in the 141 lb. 15/16 year old open class decision.
Border City Boxer Andre Gorges defeated his opponent in a preliminary bout and went on to drop
a 2-1 split decision to Anthony Martinez from Fort Worth, Texas. Martinez, a three time U.S Golden Gloves
Champion went on to win gold in the 45 kgs/132 lb. senior men's open class division.
Border City's Katie Dunn won a bronze medal after losing to Sandy Tsaqouris from Ontario in the 45 kgs/132 lb. Senior women's division.
Also representing Border City was Alison Hunter and Dave Robinson , who lost bouts early in the competition.

Border City Boxers Compete at Ringside
The Border City Boxing Team will be traveling to Kansas City today to compete in the 2003 Ringside National Labor Day Championships.

This year's team includes "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges, Jamie "The Jack-Hammer" Cameron, Katie "Silence" Dunn, Dangerous" Dave Robinson, Lukas "The Rabbit" Welniak, Alison "The Cat" Hunter,
"Jack-knife" Josh Cameron and making his debut, Coach Lloyd Johnson will compete in the Senior Master's Division as a Super heavyweight.
Coaching the team will be 3-time World Champion Margaret Sidoroff-Canty and Border City President Josh Canty.
The Ringside National Tournament, the largest amateur boxing tournament in the world, will run from August 26 - 31, 2003.

Border City 4-0 in Final Tune Up
Four Border City Boxing Club members won decisions in Toledo Ohio on Friday night in their final preparations for the Ringside Annual Labor Day Tournament.

Dangerous" Dave Robinson defeated Juan Buendia of the American G. I. Forum Boxing Team in a Senior 165 lbs. open-class contest,
Lukas "The Rabbit" Welniak out-pointed Najee Hayes
of the Toledo Titans Boxing Club in a Jr. C 141 lbs. open-class bout,
Katie "Silence" Dunn bested Toledo Titans' Nasheba Thomas in a Senior 132 lbs. open-class bout, and
Jamie "The Jack-Hammer" Cameron won over Cleveland's Stephen Gant in a Jr. C 132 lbs. open-class contest.
The four will be leaving for Kansas on August 25th along with Cameron's younger brother, "Jack-knife" Josh Cameron (Jr. C 100 lbs. Open), Alison "The Cat" Hunter
(Sr. 125 lbs. Open), "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges (Sr. 132 lbs. Open), and 49 year old Coach Lloyd Johnson who will be entering the Senior Master's Division at Superheavyweight.
Coaching the team will be 3-time World Champion Margaret Sidoroff-Canty and Border City President Josh Canty.

Cameron and Robinson Victorious
In his final tune-up bout before defending his 2002 Ringside International Championship,
Border City Boxing Club's "Jack-Knife" Josh Cameron defeated Michigan's
Joel Flores in a Jr. B 100 lbs. Open Class bout on Saturday.
Also the two-time Ontario
Champion, Cameron will be a member of a ten person Border City Team making a second annual
trip August 25th to Kansas City for Ringside International Tournament.
Cameron's team-mate, "Dangerous" Dave Robinson was also a winner on Saturday,
defeating Ohio?s Ben Williams by third-round T.K.O. in a Sr. 165 lbs. Open Class contest.
Robinson, who went 3-1 at last year's Ringside Tournament, hopes to improve on the Silver Medal he earned in 2002.

Gorges Competes in Ireland
Border City Boxing Club's Andre's Gorges trip to Ireland was an excellent experience for the young athlete.
Although he lost, Andre got to be a
member of Team Ontario and earned invaluable international experience against the Irish National
Champion.
He looks forward to fighting in his first Senior Provincial Championships this fall.

Boxathon a Success
Border City Boxers competed in a Boxathon, successfully raising money to compete in the Ringside tournament later this year.
Coach Canty reports that a least 10 boxers will be traveling with the Border City Boxing Team to Ringside.
The athletes and coaches would like to thank family, friends and Border City supporters for their contribution to the event.

Gorges Tunes Up for Ireland
On Friday night in Toledo Ohio, Border City Boxing Clubs "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges had his final tune-up bout before leaving for Europe next week.
Gorges defeated Toledo's Alexis Rubin in a 132 lb. Senior Open bout by unanimous decision improving his amateur record to 38 -8.
On Tuesday July 8th Gorges leaves to represent Team Ontario against Team Ireland. He will return on July 17th.
Also competing today from Border City was Garth Brown in the 70 lb Junior A Division. Brown lost a 2-1 split decision to Jimell Woods. Brown's record fell to 3-1.
Border City's Jamie Cameron lost in a unanimous in his first open class bout (Junior C 132 lb) to Bryant Smith of Toledo Titan Boxing Club.

On Thursday night in Sudbury, Border City's "Dangerous" Dave Robinson won the Best Boxer
of the Evening Award in a unanimous decision victory over Sudbury's Eric Perrier.
Robinson, the Native American Middleweight Champion, improved his record to 36-8.
Also representing Border City in an exhibition match was Ali "Ace" Hamka who made his
amateur boxing debut in the Jr. C 119 lb. Division.

Gorges and Robinson Victorious
Border City Boxing Club's Andre Gorges and David Robinson both had unanimous decision victories in Lincoln Park Michigan on Friday night.
Gorges, 18, defeated George Martin from Irish Hills Michigan in a Junior-Welterweight Open-Class contest, improving his record to 36-8.
In the Main Event, Robinson, 19, defeated 2002 Michigan State Golden Gloves Champion Christian DeHoyes from the host club A.G.I.F. (American G.I. Forum). Competing at Junior-Middleweight, Robinson's record improved to 35-8.

Robinson Captures Native American Boxing Championship Belt
On Saturday June 7, 2003, The Border City Boxing Club's Dave Robinson became
the 2003 Middleweight Native American Champion.
Robinson defeated
Peshawtown's Robert Johnson in the third round of the Men's Open-Class Final
in Traverse City Michigan. The tournament was held in cooperation with the
Native American Sports Council (NASC) and the National Indian Athletic
Association (NIAA). Robinson now qualifies to compete for the Native Team in
Europe this fall.
In other bouts in Traverse City Border City's Andre Gorges won a unanimous
decision over Pittsburgh's Stephen St. Pierre in a 132 lbs. Senior
Open-Class bout, team-mate Adam LaJoy won a unanimous decision over Richard
Chamberlain in a Junior 147 lbs. Novice bout, and Jamie Cameron dropped a
unanimous decision to Cody Pablo in a Junior 132 lbs. bout.
Also on Saturday, Border City had two boxers compete in Hamilton Ontario,
both losing unanimous decisions: Katie Dunn to Bramalea's Sandy Tsagouris
and Grego Gajewska to the host Regency Boxing Club's Kyle Golan.

Robinson and Cameron Flying High
On Saturday May 31, 2003, The Border City Boxing Club had two boxers compete in Kalamazoo Michigan.
Border City Boxer and Ontario Champion “Jack-knife” Josh Cameron defeated Bryon Blabley from The Buster
Mathis Boxing Academy in a 95 lb Junior Competition. Josh out classed Bryon, winning a unanimous
decision. In the Main Event of the evening Border City's “Dangerous” David Robinson
out-boxed Israel Cooper of Kalamazoo Eastide Boxing Club in the Senior, 165 lbs Open Category. Dave
also won a unanimous decision in an action packed bout.
The next competition for Robinson is the annual Ringside Native American Boxing Championships, from
June 4-7 2003. The tournament is being held in cooperation with the Native American Sports Council
(NASC) and the National Indian Athletic Association (NIAA) in order to provide a greater range of
competition for Native American athletes throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Border City Joins Young Eagles
On Sunday June 1, ten Border City Boxers participated in the Young Eagles Program offered at
Windsor Airport. The athletes are now among the near 1 million participants, who might never
otherwise have had the opportunity, to learn about and fly a general aviation aircraft. The EAA
Aviation Foundation is dedicated to the discovery and fulfillment of individual potential through
opportunities and challenges inspired by the dream of personal flight.

Border City Boxer Competes at Chatham Club Show
Katie "Silence" Dunn of the Border City Boxing Club must have been
confident entering the ring at Kent Athletic Youth Organization's club show this weekend in Chatham.
Dunn (28-5) faced Wendy Lee of Sully's Boxing Club in Toronto in a rematch, which was
demanded by Lee when the boxers last met, at Border City's May 3rd Club Show at Essex District High school.
Dunn, the 2003 Open Provincial Medallist and
2002 National Bronze Medallist, won again, by unanimous decision.

"Dangerous" Dave Robinson won the Bill White Best Boxer Award , defeating Conroy Murrell of
Toronto's Sully's Boxing Club by second round T.K.O.
Robinson received a huge ovation from his home-school
Essex crowd.
2002 Provincial Champion Katie "Silence" Dunn of the
Border City Boxing Club won a unanimous decision over
Sully's Wendy Lee.
In one of the exciting bouts of the evening, Border
City Boxing Club's "Gorgeous" Andre Gorges improved to
34-8 by besting Lee Morrison of Sully's by unanimous
decision.
"Atomic" Adam LaJoy represented Border City Boxing
Club by winning his second bout against Jordan
Mulivihill of Sarnia's River City Boxing Club by a
unanimous decision.
Also representing Border City Boxing Club was Jamie
"Jack-Hammer" Cameron who won a unanimous decision
over Fighting Island's Tyler Dunlop.
Finally, Jarrod "Irish Sweet-Pea" Whittaker won a very
close decision over Chris Copeland of Bay City
Michigan.

Fight Night at the Legion
There was nonstop action as The Border City Boxing Club held it's first show of the year at the Royal Canadian Legion.
The crowd was treated to
two exhibitions and 7 bouts of constant excitement as boxers from across Ontario and Michigan demonstrated extraordinary competitiveness and skill as they competed. Katie "Silence" Dunn was awarded The Bill White Best Boxer Award for the afternoon.
Border City boxers performed well with wins for Mike Plantus, Andre Gorges, Jamie Cameron and Katie Dunn and debut boxers Christine Regier and James Jeffery .
Stephen Schram fell to 8-4 with a loss to Kyle Skelton.
