Sidoroff earns WBAN HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT FOR EXCELLENCE Award

"Mean" Margaret Defeats Leona Brown

The Women Boxing Archive Network honoured Windsor's Margaret Sidoroff with its Highest Achievement for Excellence Award for the year.

WBAN was quoted as saying, "Margaret Sidoroff was not only one of the best women boxers in the world, holding several world championship titles, but she wanted to set the best example for other women boxers to follow. She paid her dues in amateurs before turning pro. She would fight anyone when she was boxing professionally, and she retired to dedicate herself to working with others as a boxing coach."

The award was a wonderful honour for Margaret to receive at the end of her brilliant career.

Sidoroff Retires, Turns to Coaching

Coach Margaret with National Champion Jeannine Garside

Going into her final bout against Wendy Rodriguez on October 28, 2000, in Miami, Florida, Windsor's "Mean" Margaret Sidoroff knew it would be her last.

All of the belts and recognition as the pound for pound best she accumulated during her undefeated career meant little to her pocketbook, and Margaret knew she had to move on to a regular paying job.

Satisfied with her accomplishments and looking forward to running the Border City Boxing Club, Margaret announced her final bout.

Rodriguez, fighting the most important bout of her young career, and Sidoroff, fighting the last bout of her career, fought to a disappointing 10 round draw.

Although tempted to go back on her decision to retire, "Mean" Margaret hung up the gloves permanently, and began to put her coaching skills to the test.

"Mean" Margaret Captures Third World Title on April 6, 2000

Border City Boxing Club's "Mean" Margaret Sidoroff demonstrated an outstanding body attack in claiming the IWBF Flyweight World Championship against Washington's Para "Hurricane" Draine at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.

Sidoroff suffered the first cut of her career in the seventh round when she and Draine clashed heads in a close exchange. Sidoroff survived the cut to win a unanimous decision over Draine.

Fighting in the first Female World Championship bout to be held in Canada, "Mean" Margaret fulfilled one of her dreams, and also raised thousands of dollars for the Rubin Carter Foundation.

Canty and Sidoroff Assume Control of Border City

Border City Founder Bill White is stepping down as Manager and Executive Director of the Club. Stepping in to fill his huge shoes are Head Coach, Josh Canty, and Professional World Champion Margaret Sidoroff.

Sidoroff is currently recognized by many as the best pound-for-pound female boxer in the world.

Working to complete her Level Four Coaching Certification by year's end, Sidoroff is already preparing for boxing life after competition. To honour Mr. White, Canty and Sidoroff plan to have a Best Boxer Award at each Live Event Border City hosts, appropriately named The Bill White Award.
