Sidoroff Defeats Eva Young for Bantamweight World Title

Windsor's "Mean" Margaret Sidoroff captured the IWBF Bantamweight World Championship from Kansas City's Eva "Sweet Magic" Young on February 26, 1999. The fight took place in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

Young, recognized as one of the best female boxers in the world also owns the WIBF Bantamweight Title, but put only one of her belts up against the undefeated Canadian.

Sidoroff, who normally campaigns at Flyweight, was the underdog in this bout but managed to outwork the more experienced Young for a split decision win.

Sidoroff, who was having trouble finding fights after knocking out her first three opponents, now hopes to return to Flyweight and, with her new-found credibility, challenge for the Flyweight World Title.

"Mean" Margaret Captures WIBF Jr. Bantamweight Intercontinental Belt

Windsor's Margaret Sidoroff brought home another belt on June 16, 1999. Sidoroff fought in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the 115 pound Intercontinental Championship.

Brenda "The Tigress" Burnside dropped a lop-sided decision to Sidoroff who put Burnside on the canvas twice in the ninth round to put an exclamation point on a dominant performance.

The bout was originally scheduled to be a World Title bout, however the promoter was out-bid by Universum in Germany who intend to have their fighter, Daisy Lang, compete for the World Title later this year.

Sidoroff hopes to face Lang, or her stablemate Regina Halmich, in the near future.

Sidoroff Wins Champ vs. Champ Battle July 20, 1999

"Mean" Margaret Sidoroff first met New York's Leona "Downtown" Brown on an ESPN2 Televised Card in which Sidoroff was on the undercard and Brown was in the Main Event for the 122 pound World Title. Brown became World Champion and had advice for the young Canadian standout at her post-bout celebration party.

Neither knew that they would be facing one another just over a year later in a non-title bout. Both women prided themselves in facing only credible opponents, so when the promoter refused to pay the sanction fee for a title match, Sidoroff and Brown agreed to face each other for bragging rights.

Sidoroff came away with a hard-fought unanimous decision but both ladies made Female Boxing the real winner in an exciting and hard-hitting battle.

"Mean" Margaret Sidoroff did not make the Top Twenty Female Boxers in the World List in Women's Boxing World, but she did get honourable mention for her outstanding start in the sport. Some notables on the list: at Number 1 - Jolene Blackshear; at Number 3 - Regina Halmich; at Number 4 - Eva Jones-Young; at Number 10 - Para Draine; at Number 12 - Christy Martin; at Number 20 - Leona Brown.
