Border City hosted an exciting show to raise funds for Forester High
School. Border City's Edizen Veluz won her bout by unanimous decision, while James
McFarland dropped a UD to Michigan's Andre Durrell.
Veluz Wins Provincials, Sidoroff Wins Make-Up The Border City Boxing Club had two boxers compete at the 1997 Senior Provincial Championships. Edizen Veluz advanced to the Nationals after defeating Kingston's Jamie Behl. Border City's Margaret Sidoroff was not so fortunate - having only four bouts, Sidoroff did not qualify for the Open Class Tournament and was offered only a make-up (non-qualifying) bout with walkover Champion Tracy Stevens of Thunder Bay. Although she gave up a great deal of experience, Sidoroff handily defeated the Ontario Champion, but does not advance to the Nationals. Stevens went on to win the Silver Medal at the Nationals. It's lack of faith
that makes people afraid of meeting challenges,
and I believed in myself.
