Canty Drops Decision to American Champion

Border City's National Champion, Josh Canty, dropped a decision to Raymond Keys, U.S. National Champion, at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The bout was a back and forth battle until Keys scored a combination in the final round that earned an eight-count on the Canadian. The decision was unanimous.

Canty Wins National Title

The Border City Boxing Club has its first Canadian Champion! Josh Canty defeated the Quebec Champion in the semi-finals, then went on to stop the Nova Scotia Champ in the final to capture the 1989 Welterweight Canadian Championship. Although there was originally a Junior Team Competition planned for Greece, the trip was later cancelled.

 

Canty Defeats Michigan Golden Gloves Champ

 

The Border City Boxing Club's Josh Canty defeated the Michigan Golden Gloves Champion, Brian Coch of Monroe, MI. by unanimous decision on a fight card in Detroit. The bout was Canty's final tune-up before he left for his National Training Camp in Toronto.
