Border City Boxing Club is Born!

As the Ren-Cen Boxing Club dissolved in 1987, its former members dreamed of starting a new kind of Boxing Club in Windsor. Doug Bedard had been running his independent club out of his Marentette Road basement since resigning as Head Coach of the Windsor Boxing Club when he was approached by Bill White about becoming Head Coach of this new club. Bringing with him his proteges, Josh Canty and Richard Santarossa, Doug became Head Coach of the newly formed Border City Boxing Club. The Club was located at the Harmony in Action building in Remington Park, Windsor.

Border City Competes on Belle Isle

Border City's Josh Canty competed on Belle Isle in front of an eager outdoor crowd with much at stake. In attendance were the Police Athletic League (PAL) Organizers who are taking a select team to the Ohio State Golden Gloves later in the year. Canty's knock out win encouraged the organizers to put him on the PAL squad.

Canty Wins Ohio State Golden Gloves

The Border City Boxing Club's Josh Canty joined the Detroit PAL Boxing Team for the Ohio State Golden Glove Championships this weekend. Canty won the tournament in the 139 lbs. Class.

Canty Captures the Provincial Title, Advances to the Nationals

Border City Boxing's Josh Canty defeated veteran Andre Laroche of Sudbury to advance to the Nationals next May in Nova Scotia. Canty defeated the former Ontario Champ by unanimous decision.
